Comparing Different Types of Facial Fillers

Hydration, a healthy diet, and a perfect skincare routine can help your skin look and feel younger for longer, but time does eventually take its toll. If you’re starting to notice fine lines, wrinkles, or loss of facial volume in areas of your face, dermal fillers could be your ideal solution.

There are numerous types of dermal fillers on the aesthetic market, making it difficult to determine which one is right for you. Your choice will depend on several factors, including the area you’re trying to target, your budget, and your desired results.

At Ageless Aesthetics, expert injector and trained specialist Dr. Lisa McCoy can help take you through a guide of the dermal fillers she offers her patients to help meet their specific needs.

What is a Dermal Filler?

As we age, the fat deposits in facial skin responsible for making our skin look youthful and plump begin to break down due to the body’s decrease in collagen and elastin. Losing these essential fat deposits can lead to the appearance of a hollow or sunken face. Dermal fillers are composed of a gel-like substance that consists of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is found naturally inside the body and is responsible for keeping the skin hydrated, plump, and youthful. When these fillers are skillfully injected back into the skin, they can instantly plump and rejuvenate troubled areas.

Juvéderm Ultra and Juvéderm Voluma

Juvéderm offers a line of fillers, all composed of the naturally-derived hyaluronic acid. Juvéderm Ultra is most often used to treat volume loss around the mouth and nose, in the cheeks, in the nasolabial folds or folds that run from each side of your nose to your mouth (smile/laugh lines). It has also been determined to be a safe and effective way to enhance the lips and contour the face.  Juvederm Ultra was created a few years before Juvederm Voluma and lasts 6 to 12 months. It is a more universal filler in that it can be placed in many different parts of the face.. It is a fabulous filler in certain areas but generally I prefer Allergan’s more recent line of fillers that last longer.

Juvéderm Voluma is an incredible addition to the Juvéderm family, offering a longer-lasting effect to specific facial areas and lasts 18 -24 months. It was created as a way to rejuvenate the face without surgery. It can dramatically affect the cheeks and mid-face and replace the natural facial pads that have diminished with time. This natural-looking lift results from sculpted smooth gel hyaluronic acid that has been cross-linked with Vycross technology for just a bit more lift than its predecessor. It has been FDA approved for both the cheek and chin areas of the face.

Kybella Double Chin Treatment

If you’re unhappy about the fat under the chin, also known as submental fullness, Kybella® is a non-invasive solution to help restore a smooth, youthful contour to the chin. It’s technically not a filler; the active ingredient in Kybella® is synthetic deoxycholicacid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella® destroys fat cells, resulting in a reduction in the fullness beneath the chin.
